LO2 - P3: Magazine analysis

LO1 - M1: Justify the content, distribution and marketing methods identified the planned production to meet a client brief.

Marketing and Distribution

Marketing:

  • Other Magazines: I will also promote my magazine in other magazines with a 1 page advertisement that promotes the magazine showing what type of magazine it is, it will be in a magazine similar to my fashion magazine so they have the same target audience and other people will want to read my magazine.
  • Online: My magazine will also be advertised online on websites that use pop-up ads this is effective as many people see this and the magazine and it will stick in their heads. Also I can promote it on social media using twitter, Instagram, Facebook etc. all of these social media platforms have different age categories Facebook is popular with adults, Instagram is popular with teens and young adults and twitter is a mix, this means that my magazine will get out to everyone.
  • Posters billboards: I will advertise my magazine by producing posters to promote the magazine and showing the public why they should be reading and purchasing my magazine. I will also get my magazine advertised on bill boards for example on a bus stop.
  • Events: I will advertise my magazine in events such as tows fashion weeks as it isn’t a huge an A list event but is more of a low scale but is open to the public and would be a good way to promote the magazine.
  • Shops: I would advertise my magazine shops that relate to the magazine for example fashion stores like; New Look, Topshop, River island etc.

 Distribution:
These are the different ways I will distribute my magazine. This will meet the needs of the brief as I have been asked to create a print product, therefore the marketing and distribution follow the conventions of a print product.

My magazine will be distributed through the following mediums:

  • Online: Many magazines are available on print and online this is good as more and more people use the internet everyday having a printed magazine and an online one will give access to many people for the magazine.
  • News agents/Local shop: the magazine will be sold in stores that are popular and just local stores so people can get the magazine where ever they are.

LO1 - P1: Presentation, producea proposal for the original media product to meet the client brief

Presentation from katelyn mcdougall

P1: Produce a proposal for the original media product to meet the client brief

Format:

The front cover of the magazine will have a large picture on the front cover and a bold masthead that stands out but goes with the color themes. The colors will be bright colors that have a cultural style. The double page spread will have a picture on the right hand side of the double page spread. The left will have all of the information about the outfit and where you can purchase the outfit or cheaper choices.

Work Title:

My working title is ‘culture couture’ although this might change. For the Masthead I will be using a bold white font that stands out and has a large text size the font I will be suing Is called                  FRANK RUEHL. I will be using this font because the style of it is formal and looks professional, I have also seen this type of font or font of a similar style used for magazines. Overall the font is readable, and has a formal look.

Genre:

The genre of my magazine is fashion and beauty the magazine will be targeted at young adults who are interested in fashion and beauty. I have chose do base the magazine around fashion within community's linking it to different cultures and styles. I chose this genre as I believe it will appeal to many people and it works well with the target audience, as the 16-30 age group will read about fashion as its one if the biggest industry's.

Content:

The magazine content will have fashion looks and beauty tips from the catwalk. The name of the front cover is culture couture, the double page spread title will be ‘get the look for less’ and on the other ‘bright beauty’ and the subtitle will be ‘how to get the catwalk look’.

Style or Approach

Professional layout looks luxurious with bright colors that make the pages this will make it stand out and attract readers, the front cover will feature a model in a cultured inspired outfit, this is because as part of the brief my product needs to be based on community, therefore I am showing the different styles, different community's have. The outfit choice will look high end and professional. The double page spread will have images of clothes on both sides and it will show a high end designer outfit from the catwalk and next to it will be a look similar but one that is a cheaper alternative. I am doing this so the magazine will appeal to people of different socio-economic backgrounds, as there are high end and high street fashion featured in the magazine. To get the media product as much exposure as possible the magazine will be promoted on social media this is a good platform to promote as it is very popular with many people. This platform also relates with the target audience as the age group 16-30 are the most frequent users of social media, therefore the magazine will reach the target audience. Also with social media, the promotional material can be shared, giving the magazine more exposure.

Audience:

  • Age: 16-30
  • Gender: Female
  • Socio-Economic:
  • Ethnicity: Anybody
  • Stereotypes: Young female adults
The audience for the magazine will be for young adults who are female (16-30) although some people who are older or younger may read the magazine. The people who read this magazine will be interested in fashion and the latest clothes. The social grade for the magazine will be a, B; intermediate managerial, administrative or professional.

Length:

The length of the magazine will be around 30 pages long so it includes all different styles, campaigns and advertisements for sponsors. The size of the magazine will be A4 so it’s not too big otherwise it would be hard to read and carry around. A4 is more clear and more portable.
Frequency:

The magazine will be out monthly.

Marketing methods:

The Gantt chart shows the time period for how long the magazine methods will take. The marketing methods include: other magazines, online, posters/billboards, events and shops. The time period for other magazines will take place over the first 2 months out of a 6-month period, online will be halfway through the 2nd month and take a month long. Posters and billboards will be halfway through the 2nd month and last up until the first half of the 4th month. Events will be happening through the 2nd half of the 3rd month and last for month. The method of marketing in shops will be from the 3rd month to the end of the 5th month.

Distribution methods:

The Gantt chart for distribution methods shows the methods for distribution include: Online, news agents and local shops. The time period for online distribution will be in the 2nd half of the 3rd month and last all the way to the end of the 6-month period. The news agents will be from the 2nd half of 3rd month up until the 1st half of the 6 months. Finally local shops will be from the 4th month till the 5th month.

Other distribution methods:

Other distribution methods include;

- Cross-promote print and web:
Interest people with the magazine by showing special previews of the magazine, or and editorial content. This is an effective way to distribute as it will get readers excited for what else is to come, and it could gain you casual readers.

- Social media campaigning:
By creating a social media page for the a magazine, it will expose the magazine and it can be shared by all different people. This is effectively free advertising, so therefore it would save money, if you were on a budget.

-Free subscriptions:
People would be more likely to pay for your magazine if they have seen a few previews, as they know what the magazine will be like and what they are paying for. This could also lead to people recommending this magazine as something to read.

Justification for codes and conventions:

I have named my magazine Culture Couture as it makes the magazine appear very high end and will accumulate a wider audience. The word "couture" suggests high end and luxury this will encourage readers who are particularly wealthy as they can afford Couture fashion. However readers who aren't particularly wealthy will aspire to have clothes that are couture style.
I have used an image of a model with cultural clothes, as it addresses what the magazine is about and gives the reader some insight as what the magazine will feature. The image will be either a mid shot or a long shot, this is so the outfit is the main feature on the image. I will use sell lines such as "Designer looks for less", "Exclusive trends from the catwalk" and "how to get the latest looks". This will give the reader some basic content of what is in the magazine, and what they can expect. These lines will help sell my magazine as they are about things people will be interested. The sell lines will help to not put people off, as the title "couture" suggests that the clothes will be over priced, however the sell lines say how there are cheaper alternatives. This will again widen the audience range. The layout of the magazine will look editorial, this will give the appearance of a high end fashion magazine, it will have a similar layout as magazines such as, Vogue, Harpers Bazaar etc. The article will have context on the latest trends, this will inspire the readers and educate them on the fashion that has been seen on the catwalk. The large heading for the double page spread will introduce the text and show the reader what the content is about.
